My Funny for the Week

Posted in Randumb at 3:38 am by Iram

There was a meeting of all the Sardar Freedom Fighters. They were planning for a "Free Punjab." Santa Singh raised a point: "Oh…We will take Punjab from India, but how would we develop it?" That was a tough one indeed. Then, Banta Singh had a brainwave. "No problem," he said, "We'll attack Amreeka. It would take over us and then we would become another estate of the USA and develop automatically." All the Sardars became happy with this very simple solution but an old Sardar was not convinced. Someone asked him why he was so hesitant about the decision and the old Sardar replied, "That's all very well, but what would happen if by chance we took over Amreeka?"

Disrespectful, racist and a shameful attempt at humor. I’m sure the writer is Indian by the use of certain words. I am from New York, its good to know that abroad while our south asian community (as the minority) is fighting to end discrimination and racism against our community here, that back home in India minorities are just subjected to it by our own people. Makes me proud to call myself an Indian.

Actually, I’m not Indian. And this joke was meant to be a comment on American foreign policy rather than an extension of stereotypes against Indians in America. The South Asian community is definitely a minority in this country, but that doesn’t mean that we need to be hyper-sensitive to anything that could possibly be construed as a stereotypical comment or joke, especially to the point that we put a negative spin on everything out there and assume that it must be against us.

Very good joke. The point (comment on american forign policy) was very clear to me as a reader, I completly agree with your comments about the world becoming hyper sensetive at certian issues. Interesting blog to stumble across 🙂

It amazes me that some people do not have a sense of humor.
